With unemployment running high, won’t industrial wind turbines bring much needed jobs?

Installing wind turbines standing nearly 500 feet tall is a complex type of construction requiring skilled laborers & specialized equipment. Chances are the out-of-state contractors will bring their labor force with them.

Local companies providing stone, aggregate and cement certainly stand to benefit during construction which may increase their hiring to handle the surge in business. When construction is completed, however, these “extra” jobs will likely disappear. And once a project is operational, there are few permanent jobs associated with these enterprises and require highly specialized skills.
